![]() ![]() ![]() Peace does not last for long, as “AS Sane” the final snippet on the mixtape is definitely a club track, with beats and melodies that, despite being quite abstract in a way, are definitely influenced by dancehall and even reggaeton, something like Kamixlo, Dinamarca or Toxe might do, but it still sounds like a thing that only Amnesia Scanner would be capable of doing. The production is still incredibly dense and tense, it feels like a brief moment of truce in the middle of a sonic war. It has more in common with fellow Finnish experimentalists Pan Sonic than it does with any other “deconstructive club” act, whatever that term means. Opening track “AS Powerless” sets the mood, while the bursts of noise and field-recordings from “AS Lamento” represents AS at their most experimental.Īfter the two previously released tracks (that have more of a club vibe in comparison to the rest), the noisy-yet-organic percussion on “AS Drugs on War” might come across as shocking. In just seven songs and slightly above fifteen minutes, they push their sound forward to unexpected places. It might not have the spoken word-based/highly-conceptual art that their 2014 release ‘Angels Rig Hook’ did, but for that reason it could be more innovative. ![]() Still, with the release of the ‘AS Truth’ mixtape this February, it seems to make more sense as little “snippets” from a whole piece. Later in that year, they released a double single that featured the tracks “AS Truth” and “AS Brieth”, the latter featuring frequent Holly Herndon-collaborator Colin Self’s vocals, and these continued with their strike of excellence. Following the release of many tracks, mixtapes and an audiovisual piece with PAN’s Bill Kouligas (’ Lexachast’), that first proper release placed them as one of the most exciting figures within the genre. Last year, Finnish electronic music duo Amnesia Scanner released their debut EP, ‘ AS’, which contained some of the most chaotic, loudest “dance” music possible.
